Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens is an American musician and singer, better recognized under the stage name, Queen Latifah. Queen Latifah is an American rapper, actress as well as a singer. Queen Latifah was the daughter of an Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and a Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior, was raised and born within Newark New Jersey. The couple divorced when Latifah was age of 10. Latifah was raised in the Baptist church and she attended Catholic school at Newark New Jersey. When she was 8 when her mother gave her stage names Latifah which translates to tender and gentle in Arabic. Always a tall girl the 5'10 tall Latifah was a power forward for her high school basketball team. in a school show, she performed the song Home from The Wiz. Latifah started to beatbox for the Ladies Fresh. Latifah was a part of the Flavor Unit in its original form, which consisted of an MC team with producer DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James aka the 45 King, made a recording of Queen Latifah's Princess of the Posse rap. He gave the recording to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. The track caught the attention to Tommy Boy Music employee Dante Ross who has signed Latifah and in 1988 issued her first track Wrath of My Madness.
